International News Global Fund Announces Three-Year, $67 Million Grant to Fight HIV/AIDS in UkraineJuly 25, 2005 The Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has approved a three-year, $67 million grant to fight HIV/AIDS in Ukraine, the country's Deputy Health Minister Viktor Rybchuk announced at a news conference on Thursday, ITAR-TASS World Service reports. According to Rybchuk, who also chairs Ukraine's national council on HIV/AIDS, the grant amount "matches the amount of aid Ukraine asked for" (ITAR-TASS World Service, 7/21). Ukraine, which has 3,500 recorded AIDS cases, will begin receiving the funding on Oct. 1. Currently, 2,000 people living with AIDS in the country are receiving treatment (Interfax, 7/21).
