Remembering Charles Edward CliftonPositively Aware Columnist Jim Pickett Remembers Charles Clifton
August 18, 2004 Charles Clifton was one of the preeminent AIDS leaders and advocates for people living with HIV here in Chicago and all across the globe. From one end of the Earth to the other, and on many, many points in between, Charles played a role in someone's life. Those roles included, but were in no way limited to, mentor, friend, leader, citizen, thinker, writer, activist, advocate, partner, son and man. I cannot begin to articulate how he will be missed by so many, including myself. On Monday, I kept waiting for the second phone call to come. The one that would tell me the first caller had gotten it all wrong, it had all been a huge mistake, that Charles was not gone. The call never came.
