Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima

December 2001

Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima began his celebrated career playing football barefoot in the streets of a poor suburb of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now playing for the Italian club, Inter Milan, Ronaldo is considered one of the most successful football players today. Despite his international popularity, Ronaldo has not forgotten his social background. Over the past three years, he has been working to help Brazilian children living in poverty. Ronaldo's work on HIV/AIDS includes a public service announcement as part of UNDP's Breaking the Silence on HIV/AIDS public awareness campaign as well as having served as a Special Representative for the World AIDS Campaign. Since February 2000 Ronaldo has served as an UNDP Global Goodwill Ambassador.

"You cannot tell just by looking at someone that they are infected with HIV. Be safe -- wear a condom."

-- Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima
