International News Nigeria, UNAIDS Sign Agreement to Create HIV/AIDS Think TankFebruary 7, 2006 Nigeria signed an agreement with UNAIDS to establish a think tank in the country that will aim to curb the spread of HIV, Babatunde Osotimehin, chair of Nigeria's National Action Committee on AIDS, said on Sunday, Xinhuanet reports. The think tank, which will be called the Africa Center for AIDS Management, will be the first such facility on the continent, Osotimehin said. He added that the center was launched to provide Nigerians with universal access to information, skills, products and care and support services by 2010. The center is an offshoot of the universal access concept, which U.N. member countries established in 2001 to give nations more control of their development programs, particularly in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS, Osotimehin said (Xinhuanet, 2/5).
