Joey DiPaolo

December 2001

Joey DiPaolo, a 21-year-old AIDS advocate and educator, was infected with HIV in 1984. In 1990, after a serious AIDS-related illness, Joey decided to publicly reveal his HIV status and work to lift the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. In 1986, he and his mother founded the Joey DiPaolo Foundation to raise public awareness of AIDS and improve the lives of teens living with HIV. Through the Foundation, Joey established Camp Teens Living a Challenge (TLC), a summer camp for teens living with HIV/AIDS. Camp TLC currently serves approximately 100 teens annually.

"Stop, listen and learn all you can about HIV/AIDS. Prevention and life -- it's your choice!"

-- Joey DiPaolo
