Commentary & Opinion Black Leaders Make HIV/AIDS Priority, Opinion Piece SaysJune 19, 2006 "[O]ver the years, the silence among" blacks in the U.S. about HIV/AIDS has been "deafening," columnist E.R. Shipp writes in a Kansas City Star opinion piece. However, the "latest rallying of black folks of influence" at a recent meeting might be the "real deal" in the "crusade" to curb the spread of HIV among blacks, according to Shipp. In addition to politicians, civil rights leaders and church members, the fight against HIV/AIDS in the black community has "another advantage" because "major media organizations that reach millions of black folks every day ... have signed on" to spread HIV prevention methods, Shipp writes. "It's about time," Shipp concludes (Shipp, Kansas City Star, 6/15). Back to other news for June 19, 2006
