Target Groups

December 2002

Stigma and discrimination occur in many settings. The role played by different groups in perpetuating stigma, discrimination and human rights violations is not homogenous. The target groups for the campaign are:

  • The general public

  • Young people

  • People living with HIV/AIDS and organizations

  • National AIDS Programmes, NGOs and AIDS Service Organizations

  • Workers and employers

  • Faith-based organizations

  • Health care workers (doctors, paramedics, nurses and orderlies)

  • Teachers and students

  • Governmental authorities, politicians and parliamentarians

  • Journalists and the media

  • Legal system (human rights commissions, prosecutors, judges and lawyers)

  • State law-enforcement authorities (police, prison staff, peacekeepers and armed services)

  • Insurance sector (health, travel, life, housing and investment)

The majority of people are silent about HIV/AIDS-related stigma and discrimination. By being silent, YOU, too, contribute to stigma and discrimination.
