U.S. News San Francisco: 17th Annual AIDS Walk Next WeekendJuly 15, 2003 The 17th annual AIDS walk in San Francisco is being held Sunday, July 20, at Golden Gate Park. Presented by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the walk will raise money for 33 benefiting organizations in five Bay Area counties. Participants are not required to raise any minimum amount. The event begins and ends at Sharon Meadow. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., with a warm-up at 9:30. Opening ceremonies are at 9:45 a.m., with scheduled speakers including Rita Moreno, the only female performer to have won the Oscar, the Emmy, the Grammy, and the Tony; comedian and "Queer as Folk" star Hal Sparks; actress Thora Birch, known for her roles in "American Beauty" and "Ghost World"; and actor/model Bolt Birch. The 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and takes roughly two to three hours to complete.
