June 6: Live! AIDS 2012 Community Reps Take Your Qs, Suggestions!

Join us for the LiveBlogged launch of Countdown AIDS 2012, an open, public project for sharing information and mobilizing around the 19th International AIDS Conference:

When: Monday, June 6 at 1 pm Eastern

What: A LiveBlog: Just come on back to www.preventionjustice.org on that day and time, and you'll be able to type in and read questions and comments! (The conversation will also be available immediately afterwards, and on an ongoing basis.)

Why and Who:

AIDS 2012 is over a year from now, but plans are underway for this massive event that will gather over 25,000 in Washington DC next July.

What will happen there? How can people living with HIV and other activists use this conference to further HIV prevention justice and our policy priorities? How can the planning be as transparent and accountable as possible?

We'll give you the opportunity to ask these and more questions of the five U.S.-based community representatives to AIDS 2012:

• Naina Khanna, U.S. Positive Women's Network and WORLD
• David Munar, AIDS Foundation of Chicago
• Waheedah Shabazz-El, HIV Prevention Justice Alliance and U.S. Positive Women's Network
• Phill Wilson, Black AIDS Institute

In mid-May, they participated in the first full meeting of the AIDS 2012 Joint Programme Committee (comprised of members of 3 subcommittees: Community Programme, Leadership and Accountability, and Scientific Programme) and the 3rd meeting of the 2012 Conference Coordinating Committee.

What does that all mean? Who runs this thing, anyway? What can be done to make it an advocacy success? And what are the implications of it happening in the U.S. just months before a Presidential election?

The discussion will be facilitated by Julie Davids of the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance.

Countdown AIDS 2012 is an open, public project for sharing information and mobilizing around the 19th International AIDS Conference, known as AIDS 2012.

AIDS 2012 will be held in the United States in Washington DC from July 22 – 27, 2012. Countdown AIDS 2012 will provide an online public forum for posting information on AIDS 2012-associated planning, public events, organizing materials and mobilization information, as well as timely updates and activist perspectives before, during and after the conference.

Countdown AIDS 2012 is an initiative of AIDS Foundation of Chicago and its national and international policy projects and networks: Dose of Change, HIV Prevention Justice Alliance (HIV PJA) and the International Rectal Microbicides Alliance (IRMA).
