Pennsylvania: Pitt Awards Porter Prize to French AIDS Researcher

Virologist Francoise Barre-Sinoussi has received the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health's 2011 Porter Prize in recognition of her contributions to HIV/AIDS research. In 2008, Barre-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their discovery of HIV. Barre-Sinoussi is director of the Regulation of Retroviral Infections Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and assumes the presidency of the International AIDS Society in 2012. She received the award Friday at the university and delivered two lectures on HIV.
