Illinois: Hispanic Women Being Sought for Medical Research
May 13, 2011
Coinciding with National Women's Health Week, Northwestern University announced the launch of a website to encourage Hispanic women's participation in clinical trials. Including Hispanic women in research is important to discovering why they fare worse than others on many health issues, said Candace Tingen, director of research programs at the university's Institute of Women's Health Research. New AIDS cases disproportionately affect Hispanic women in Illinois. One-third of state Latinas report just fair or poor health -- a rate four times higher than for white women. For information about the Spanish-language women's health registry, visit https://whr.northwestern.edu/es.
