A Poem by Greg

April 2011

Greg is from Melbourne, Australia and was diagnosed in September 2010.

Late Autumn in Melbourne

Leaves falling to the ground,
the elms look amazing,

Drinking a latte
walking along Saint Kilda Road.

Hearing the tires
sweep along the road, smiling.

It's been a struggle these last six months.
My boyfriend of ten years is gone.

My house, my home,
forced to sell.

Last four months,
on disability.

I sip my latte and look around,
the streets are the same.

The trees look browner than I can recall,
though I guess the last time I was here
I wasn't HIV positive.

Start a new job tomorrow
moving this weekend.

Maybe I can do this after all,
maybe it is as simple
as putting one foot in front of the other.

I can do this, yes I will.
And in the end I know I'll be OK.
