Three Poems by Darris Willis

April 2011

Get Up

The tears will slow
and the fear will ease.
Your despair will lose its G-R-I-P.
But only
only If you get up.

Stand tall.
Face it all.
Brace yourself.
Let it flow over,
around and through.

You are able.
Trust in this.
You are fierce.
You got this.

Give your all
to the battle and believe.
You will win.
But only
only If you get up.

Where do you keep yours?
What special spot bears it?
What color is it?
Does it still ache?

I keep mine on my face
And in my eyes
And in my words
All my parts bear it
Especially the can-be-seen parts
It is the color of Broken and
It hurts in quiet waves

Do you hide yours?
Like most of the world?
Do you not mention it?
Ignore its ache?
Its begging agony?

Do you bleed in the dark?

Don't you know?
You are not alone

Everyone has them
Everyone carries a mark

We are all
All of us

Soul's Serenade

Sing the glory of You
Share your melody
Spin your harmony
Give up the intrinsic timbre
Of your "I"

For your music is our sustenance
Your tune causes the universe to spin
Know the Power of your Aria

The heart's hymn will carry you through
The exquisite refrain
Flowing from your soul
Is Perfect.
