D.C. Voting Rights Advocates to Meet With Senators, Say Needle Exchange Funds Should Be Restored

In meetings today in Washington, members of the D.C. Voting Rights Coalition plan to urge senators to reject provisions in a House-passed budget bill that would bar the district from spending local taxpayer funds on needle-exchange programs and abortions for poor women. Advocates say NEPs play a critical role in the fight against HIV; some Republicans are morally opposed to providing clean needles to drug users.
