Tennesee: Middle-Schoolers Answer Survey About Risky Behavior
March 4, 2011
Of Knox County seventh- and eighth-graders who took the 2010 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, about 17 percent reported they had had sexual intercourse. Among those self-reporting sex were more boys than girls (20 percent and 13 percent), black students than white students (31 percent and 14 percent), and more eighth- than seventh-graders (21 percent and 13 percent). More than 60 percent reported using a condom at last sex. About 5 percent reported having sexual intercourse before age 12, said Kathy Brown of the Knox County Health Department.
