February 25, 2011

Think the National HIV/AIDS Strategy's a good idea?

Then please join the HIV PJA and the Coalition for the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, urging Congress to get a Cost and Savings Estimate done to show that it will save big bucks!

All the information you need is below.

But please act now -- the deadline is THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2 ...

Urge Your Representative to Sign-On to the Quigley/Lee Letter to the Congressional Budget Office Requesting a Cost and Savings Estimate of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy

Just a few days left to persuade members of Congress to join the Quigley/Lee letter requesting a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate of the cost and savings of implementing the National HIV/AIDS Strategy!

U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) are circulating a dear-colleague letter in the House inviting members of Congress to join their letter to the CBO requesting an official, unbiased estimate of the needed investments and corresponding savings of a fully implemented National HIV/AIDS Strategy.

As we balance difficult economic times with the imperative to reduce the federal budget deficit and stimulate economic recovery, Congress must examine every dollar of federal spending to maximize results and strengthen critical safety net programs for those who are most vulnerable. Nowhere is this more essential than in live-saving HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs.

The official deadline for Congressional offices to sign has been extended to Friday, February 25th. Representatives Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Corrine Brown (D-FL), John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), Barney Frank (D-MA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Jim Himes (D-CT), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), James P. Moran (D-VA), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Jared Polis (D-CO), Adam Smith (D-WA), Ted Deutch (D-FL), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) have all signed on as cosponsors!

Call your U.S. Representative today and leave this message: "Please sign on to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy dear-colleague letter being circulated by Reps. Mike Quigley and Barbara Lee."
