Minnesota: National Black HIV/AIDS Day Set for Monday

The Minnesota Department of Health will mark National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Monday by offering free, confidential testing and by sponsoring numerous events across the state. In 2009, HIV infection rates for African-American residents were roughly 11 times higher than for whites; among African-born communities, rates were about 20 times greater. MDOH's Peter Carr said these communities face unique issues that contribute to the high rates, including disease-related stigma and poverty.
