California: 189 New HIV/AIDS Cases Reported

January 21, 2011

San Bernardino County health officials logged 189 new HIV/AIDS cases last year, with people of color disproportionately affected. Health Department Program Manager Daniel Perez said knowledge is key to slowing the virus' spread. "When individuals are made aware of their HIV status, they can get immediate care and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors and transmit the disease," he said. The county's public health clinic located at 799 East Rialto Ave., San Bernardino, offers HIV testing. For more information, visit www.sbcounty.gov/pubhlth/.
