U.S. News New York: Ebb Foundation Donates $1 Million to Broadway CaresDecember 15, 2010 Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has received its largest donation ever, a $1 million gift from the Fred Ebb Foundation. The Tony Award-winning lyricist's foundation, formed after his death in 2004, said Tuesday no restrictions were placed on the donation. "We're interested in the funds being used to help actors, writers, designers and other people in the theater who need assistance for medical or other reasons," said Mitchell Bernard, the foundation's trustee and a nephew of Ebb's. "[Ebb] focused his efforts and life in the New York theater community, and the people at Broadway Cares know that," said Bernard. Broadway Cares is a New York-based non-profit HIV/AIDS grant-making organization.
