South Carolina: Department of Health and Environmental Control Offering Free or Low-Cost Testing for World AIDS Day
November 18, 2010
In recognition of World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, DHEC will offer free or low-cost testing for HIV. "In South Carolina, more than 14,000 people are known to be living with HIV/AIDS, and we estimate that one HIV infection occurs in the state every nine hours," said Janet Tapp, director of DHEC's STD/HIV Division. "Every county in the state has residents living with HIV, but many South Carolinians remain unaware of their HIV status because they have not received an HIV test." For more information, telephone 800-322-2437 or visit www.scdhec.gov/stdhiv.
