South Carolina: Department of Health and Environmental Control Offering Free or Low-Cost Testing for World AIDS Day

November 18, 2010

In recognition of World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, DHEC will offer free or low-cost testing for HIV. "In South Carolina, more than 14,000 people are known to be living with HIV/AIDS, and we estimate that one HIV infection occurs in the state every nine hours," said Janet Tapp, director of DHEC's STD/HIV Division. "Every county in the state has residents living with HIV, but many South Carolinians remain unaware of their HIV status because they have not received an HIV test."
