After the contest ended, we were able to catch up with Jasmine and ask her a few questions.

What was the inspiration behind your PSA and why did you ultimately go with your idea?

Well, actually, it's funny. I had a cold while I was creating this video. It was kind of hard to tell what I was saying on some parts, so I decided to use note cards instead of speaking. And it worked out nicely. People told me the note cards were what made the video stand out and what made them pay attention.

What did you learn or get out of the process?

It was a great experience and I thank you for allowing me to take part in it. I think it's important for our generation, especially our youth, to become aware of the effects and consequences of HIV at an early age.

What does World AIDS Day mean to you?

World AIDS Day means protecting yourself and creating awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Not just today but every day.

Finally, I Got a Color TV!

I perceived it as a day for Africans. This was pretty much my entire connection to AIDS and World AIDS Day -- I used to view it as a day to distribute food to frail Africans with AIDS who were lying on their iron beds looking at the cameras while the I.V. fluid tubes crossed over their faces. This whole day didn't reserve more than a few brain cells in me. World AIDS Day was not my day by any means. Not even in my wildest dreams -- and wow, if you knew how wild my dreams could get -- had I had ever imagined that at this point, this day would mean something for me.
