International News MAC AIDS Fund Promises More Grants for Anti-AIDS Efforts in Chinese Mainland, Hong KongNovember 5, 2010 MAC Cosmetics' AIDS charity, the MAC AIDS Fund, has pledged to continue awarding grants that focus on community outreach in mainland China and Hong Kong, fund officials said recently. Since 2002, MAF has donated more than $8 million to AIDS projects in the region, said Andrea Flynn, the fund's executive director. In addition to outreach, the fund will support efforts to promote AIDS awareness, community-level HIV testing, and basic HIV treatment. Targeted condom promotions and other community-focused education and support to encourage healthy sexual practices are needed to prevent HIV transmission among high-risk populations, MAF said. In the mainland, MAF has been cooperating with UNICEF, the main grantee, raising $229,833 since 2006. MAF has channeled $521,418 to UNICEF and the Society AIDS Care since 2002. Just recently, MAF awarded $35,000 to the AIDS Concern Foundation in Hong Kong, a community-based, non-governmental support and prevention group.
