September 28, 2010

The Guilford County Department of Public Health and the National Association of People with AIDS are stressing the importance for men, particularly men who have sex with men, to know their HIV status.

"It is crucial for everyone to know their HIV status," said Merle Green, county health director. "Please take advantage of one of these many opportunities for free and confidential testing."

The following community-based groups offer free and confidential testing for syphilis and HIV:

  • Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency, 401 Taylor St., High Point, first and third Thursdays, 1-7 p.m.
  • PHSSCA, 1102 E. Market St., Greensboro; Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-noon; Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.
  • Triad Health Project, 801 Summit Ave., Greensboro; Mondays, 5-7 p.m.
  • The HIVE hosted by NIA Community Action Center, 1412 Groove St., Greensboro; Wednesdays, 3-6 p.m.

For information on additional local testing sites, telephone 336-641-5563 (Greensboro), or 336-854-7699 (High Point). Testing sites also can be located by visiting www.hivtest.org; texting one's ZIP code to KNOWIT (566958); or telephoning 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).
