Throughout this International AIDS Conference in Vienna, I have been fortunate to connect with colleagues old and new. Yesterday I spoke with my friend and colleague, Dr. Kevin Fenton, the Director for the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Fenton and I spoke about some new case studies the CDC presented on at this year's conference. The first study focused on poverty in the United States. It is one of the largest studies ever examining the relationship between low socio-economic status, race, and HIV/AIDS. Another study Dr. Fenton presented on highlighted new data and research coming out surrounding the safety of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
