The UN Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, and the Director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights hold prominent and powerful human rights positions. All three play key roles in advancing the integration of human rights protections into the global AIDS response. In this session, Manfred Nowak, Anand Grover and Morten Kjaerum will discuss the links between human rights and HIV, key successes using human rights mechanisms in the context of HIV, main concerns for the field going forward, and what more each of them could do, given his position and its limitations.
