My Fabulous DiseaseAIDS2010, Get Ready for My Fabulous Disease!By Mark S. King July 15, 2010 Come for the breaking news! Stay for the naked dancing sex workers! Yes, it's time again for the most exciting, diverse, and just plain bizarre medical conference on earth, the bi-annual international AIDS conference. Vienna will be hosting AIDS2010 from July 17-23, and I'll be there with bells on -- and video cameras rolling (to create daily video blogs just for you)! Remember we're talking about AIDS here, so the conference attracts quite a mix -- scientists, activists, human rights advocates, gay rights activists, sexuality experts, and even sex trade workers! It is the largest medical conference in the world because it is more than a medical conference -- it is a week-long statement about societies, human rights, science, sexuality and politics. And I'd like my daily videos from the conference to reflect that. I'll spend time covering any compelling breaking research, of course, but I'm also interested in what the gay activists from Uganda, for instance, think about the recent violence there against gay activists. I'll want to feature the artists in the cultural center (a wild exhibit, trust me), and the dresses made from condoms and the naked, painted sex workers and the musical groups singing about HIV. I must personally thank the folks at TheBody for their trust in me and for allowing me this opportunity. Once again this web site has demonstrated their commitment to HIV/AIDS coverage by having a strong presence at AIDS2010 -- I will be traveling with several other editorial staff, who will be closely monitoring every breaking piece of news from the event. But beyond that, TheBody wants to be sure they feature the voice of someone living with HIV. I will work very hard to do a good job for them. So, bookmark or subscribe to this blog, and follow all the coverage by bookmarking this link: www.thebody.com/aids2010.
