The challenge of containing the HIV epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo is complicated by cultural mores that often consider rape inevitable in this poor and war-torn country.

"The challenge of containing the HIV epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo is complicated by cultural mores that often consider rape inevitable in this poor and war-torn country"(US CDC, 2010). The Congolese government has been so far not capable of reducing poverty or stopping the war that humiliates women, girls, and children by raping and killing them in the Eastern part of the Country. These circumstances (poverty & war) are also ways of spreading HIV/AIDS to the Congolese population and have created a mistrust in Kabila's leadership.
Indeed, this mistrust makes progress from the knowledge of deep rooted corruption of Congolese politicians and their lack of good governance (Mahtani, 2007; Okogbule, 2006). More often than not, this has given rise in governmentâ??s
lack of credibility before the Congolese citizens.
