Arkansas: Counties Reconcile on Clinic for HIV

An HIV clinic in northwest Arkansas' Washington County will continue to serve HIV patients from neighboring Benton County under an agreement worked out this week by representatives from both county governments.

Benton County will be asked for $17,000 to help cover the cost of a clinic position through the rest of 2010. In addition, the counties will discuss regional partnerships for the clinic, said Washington County Budget Committee Chair Steve Zega.

The clinic, founded in 1992 and funded by public and private sources, offers medication, treatment, and counseling. The cumulative share of patients from Benton County is estimated at 38 percent.
