Jake Ketchum got his HIV diagnosis in 1998 at a routine check-up right before the birth of his daughter -- and it was a big surprise. His then fiancée, Becky, was there to support him, and he claims to this day that his daughter saved his life and continues to motivate him to fight. Jake's dating pool prior to his marriage had included men; it was no different after he and Becky divorced, but now dating meant facing disclosure.
Enrique FrancoEnrique Franco
The U.S. military's now defunct "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy got Enrique Franco discharged from the Army. It also, oddly, was the reason he found out he was HIV positive. As Enrique explains in this moving interview, diagnosis turned his life upside down, but he's now standing tall.

Robert Mintz"Concerning my sexual orientation, when I came home from Vietnam and decided I had to come out to my father, I was scared of how he'd respond. I took him to a park, because then if he was going to do anything he'd have to do it in public, you know? Before I even opened my mouth, he said, 'Son, God gave you to me, and nothing's gonna take you away from me.' I told him, 'Your son's gay,' and he said, 'Your point is?'"

Which affects you more on a daily basis: homophobia or HIV stigma?
Homophobia.
HIV Stigma.
They both play an equal role in my life.
Neither has much of an impact on my life.
