Precautionary testing of people who were given unsafe blood glucose tests at a community event has not turned up any infections, according to a University of New Mexico School of Medicine official. A group of students in the school's physician assistant program offered free blood glucose readings on April 24 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Concerns arose about whether needles used to draw participants' blood were being used more than once. School officials believe 57 tests were administered. Of 37 people who have identified themselves as test participants, none was positive for hepatitis B, hepatitis C or HIV, said Dr. Robert Bailey, associate dean for clinical affairs.
