In their fifth such partnership, Earvin "Magic" Johnson and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation recently opened a state-of-the-art clinic in North Miami Beach. The AHF Magic Johnson Healthcare Center/North Miami Beach is located in the NorthPark Professional Building at Jackson North Hospital, 100 N.W. 170th St.
The facility provides HIV/AIDS medical care as well as a full range of pharmacy services. Medical Director Dr. Deborah Holmes said the clinic's location allows it to reach out and serve a minority population at high risk for the disease. "They don't have to worry about paying anything," said Johnson. "We want to test them, take care of them and give them their meds."
The AHF/Johnson partnership also has clinics in Jacksonville, Oakland, San Francisco and South Los Angeles. "[AHF] is a wonderful partner, and I look forward to continuing our efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS," the basketball legend said.
At the center's dedication on May 4, Johnson was joined by local goodwill ambassador and former NBA player Alonzo Mourning. "I commend him for all that he has done, and he is one of my mentors," Mourning said of Johnson.
