Let's Thank Our President -- And Press Him to Fix ADAP
By Paul Kawata July 7, 2010 I thought a thank you letter would be a way for all of us to be a part of the event If you are willing to sign-on to this letter, please email info@nmac.org by 12 noon (Eastern)/9:00 a.m. (Pacific) on July 13th. The letter will be given to President and key administration officials after the reception. We are giving it afterwards, because we hope they will announce a solution to the ADAP crisis at the event. If this happens, the letter will be modified.
Action Across the Sectors: Highlights from National HIV Testing Day 2010
By Deb LeBel July 6, 2010 Each year I am honored to see all the ways individuals and groups take action for National HIV Testing Day (June 27) -- from conversations with loved ones, to getting tested, to attending or organizing local HIV testing events, to hosting press conferences, to convening online events. This year, I was particularly excited to see so much involvement from so many diverse stakeholders -- government (Federal, state, and local), community, private sector, and individuals. We were inspired by CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton's remarks during our National HIV Testing Day webinar for Federal employees and grantees on the current and future state of HIV testing.

Building Local Networks That Can Respond to National, State and Local Challenges
By Paul A. Kawata June 29, 2010 I am freaked by the 1840 folks on ADAP waiting lists (as of June 24th)*. I just never thought this would happen in America. I can't imagine the fear and anger you must feel when you have to piece together your medications through various patient assistance programs. Thanks to everyone who keeps this dysfunctional system working, you are my heroes. This is just one of many issues impacting our work.

By Becky Allen June 28, 2010 Obama concluded his speech optimistically, praising young LGBT people -- particularly activists -- for standing up for themselves and their rights. "I believe because of them that the future is bright. It's certainly bright for them," Obama said. "And I want you all to know that as this work continues, I'm going to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you, fighting by your side every step of the way." |
