U.S. News Elton John to Commemorate Life of Indiana AIDS VictimMarch 26, 2010 Next month marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Ryan White, the Indiana teenager whose struggle with HIV made him an international symbol of the fight against AIDS. White's mother, Jeanne White-Ginder, announced Wednesday that Elton John, one of many celebrities who befriended the youth, will perform at an April 28 concert to benefit the Indianapolis Children's Museum and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The contents of White's room, including a teddy bear he received from John, are preserved in the museum's "Power of Children" exhibit. The presentation also honors Jewish teenage diarist Anne Frank, who died in a Nazi concentration camp, and Ruby Bridges, the African-American girl who broke the color barrier at an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Fri., Apr. 23, 2010 at 12:16 am UTC I thought we retired the usage of the word "victim" in reference to AIDS patients about the time that Ryan White refused to let ignorance, or AIDS, keep him from a meaningful life helping others.
