Minnesota Observes National Native HIV/AIDS Day
March 22, 2010
The Minnesota Health Department took advantage of Saturday's National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day to urge Native Americans to fight the disease by practicing prevention, getting tested, and accessing treatment if necessary. Peter Carr of the department said Minnesota has logged 200 cases of HIV among natives since the epidemic began; 82 have died; and nearly 110 are living with HIV. American Indians and Native Alaskans are the ethnic group third-most affected by HIV, after African Americans and Latinos.
