February 2, 2010
On Saturday night in Las Vegas, Caressa Cameron, Miss Virginia, was crowned the new Miss America. A senior studying broadcast journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University, Cameron plans to take time off from her studies to fulfill her new duties. Her platform is AIDS awareness, an issue that became personal to her at age eight when she lost a beloved uncle to the disease. Cameron plans to work closely with the National AIDS Foundation and will serve as a goodwill ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network.
