International News Canada: Hepatitis C "Silent Epidemic" -- DoctorOctober 6, 2009 Between 2006 and 2008, hepatitis C rates rose by 114 percent among Canadian women and by 76.6 percent among men. Dr. Didi Emokpare of Regina called the figures "staggering" and said little attention has been paid to the potentially deadly virus. Because hepatitis C infection is under-diagnosed, the actual number of cases may be much higher than the reported number.
