New U.S. AIDS Plan Set to Be Unveiled

The 2009 National HIV Prevention Conference is underway in Atlanta, with some 3,000 attendees gathered through Wednesday to address the nation's epidemic.

Highlights of the conference include:

  • On Monday, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will unveil details of a new effort to develop a national AIDS strategy.

  • On Tuesday evening, Jeffrey Crowley, director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, will lead the first of many "community discussions" seeking input on the national strategy.

The town hall-style meeting is open to conference attendees, and 200 tickets have been set aside for the public. However, the White House provided no details about how members of the public can obtain the tickets.

The conference is co-sponsored by CDC, along with several dozen community groups, government agencies, and businesses. For more information, visit:
