Taking HIV Meds
- When should I stop Stocrin (Sustiva) if I want to get pregnant?
- I am 16 weeks pregnant and I was just diagnosed with HIV. My viral load is 76,000 and my CD4 count is 165. I am also anemic and tired most of the time, but otherwise healthy. When should I start taking HIV medication?
- When I started taking Sustiva (efavirenz, Stocrin) and a generic equivalent of Combivir (AZT/3TC), I was told that I should avoid becoming pregnant. What HIV medications are safe to take while pregnant?
- I'm HIV positive and want to have another child. During my first pregnancy, I took Combivir (AZT/3TC) + Viramune (nevirapine). Since then, I've changed my regimen to Sustiva (efavirenz, Stocrin), which isn't recommended during pregnancy. Is it safe for me to replace the Sustiva in my current regimen with Viramune, even though I've been on it before? If not, what meds would you suggest I take?
- My baby tested positive for HIV at six weeks, even though I took HIV medications during my pregnancy and he was given medication after he was born. His doctor thinks he should start HIV treatment when he is three months old, but I have reservations. Is starting treatment so early a good idea? Can I be sure that he is really infected with HIV?
- I'm caring for an HIV-positive woman who's 10 weeks pregnant and taking Epzicom (abacavir/3TC, Kivexa) + Sustiva (efavirenz, Stocrin). Her doctor says she shouldn't be taking any HIV meds because they could harm her baby. What do you think?
- I'm resistant to almost every HIV medication except Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir). My current CD4 count is 246 and hasn't topped 350 since I started treatment. I want to have a child someday; are there any HIV meds that are safe for me to use during pregnancy?
