International News Discrimination in Visa Laws Poses Risk to Those With AIDS, Rights Group SaysJune 29, 2009 Visa restrictions on people with HIV/AIDS are needlessly discriminatory and can be dangerous to patients' health, the advocacy group Human Rights Watch recently announced in a report. About one-third of all nations limit the right of people with HIV to enter or stay, even if their virus is controlled with medicine. Additionally, some nations restrict HIV/AIDS patients' access to medical care, or they deport people without considering whether HIV treatment is accessible in their country of origin. The report describes how the restrictions have led some people to commit fraud or stop treatment, jeopardizing their health.
