What's New in Fund Raising?

Ron Wilmot Bike Ride

Ron Wimot Bike Ride, Saturday, May 12, 2001
Seven Leisurely Miles Through Golden Gate Park

As bike rides go, the Ron Wilmot Bike Ride may not be the most demanding athletic event -- but it's a very special one. This seven-mile fun ride through Golden Gate Park brings the community together to raise funds for Project Inform's treatment education programs. The ride was started in 1995 by Ron Wilmot, a real estate entrepreneur, AIDS activist, avid cyclist and longtime Project Inform supporter. Before he died of AIDS in 1997, Ron challenged family, friends and the community to continue organizing a local ride for people of all abilities in which everyone could participate, particularly people with HIV. The Wilmot Ride is unique for its extremely low overhead costs and high average funds raised by each rider -- more than $500 each. What started as a visionary idea has become one of Project Inform's most important and much-loved annual fundraising events.

Form a Cycling Team!

Your company or organization can play an important role in this year's Bike Ride. Collaborate with at least five of your co-workers, friends or family members to set a group goal of $5,000 or more. As an added perk, your group can get special recognition on Bike Ride promotional materials, a special feature on Project Inform's website, a team photo and more! Many local companies have matching gift programs that can help your team meet (or exceed!) your goal.

Corporate community leaders like Charles Schwab, Kaiser Permanente, Morrison & Foerster, wOrldware and Zephyr Real Estate have already joined at the Team level. Even Project Inform Hotline volunteers have banded together to support this event. The sooner your company or organization registers to participate, the more recognition your company or group can receive. To register your Team, contact Julie at 415-558-8669 x223 or jdoherty@projectinform.org.

Fabulous Prizes

All registered riders receive a cool t-shirt, plenty of snacks at the Ride, a thank you bag of goodies, and a chance to win a grand prize trip for two to St.Thomas, Virgin Islands, courtesy of American Airlines and the spectacular Inn At Blackbeard's Castle. Other generous prize drawing incentives are offered to Riders who raise $500, $1,000 or $2,000 and above. All winners will be selected by raffle drawing immediately after the Ride. You must be present to win!

So Please Don't Delay

When you register, we will send you a packet of information with ideas to help you start your fundraising, including sample text for letters and regular email updates. Our seasoned committee of fundraisers will also be calling all Riders during the week of April 10 to help you meet your goals. Remember, you can register or make a secure donation online at www.projectinform.org/develop/Wilmot2001.html.
