VA Count of Positive HIV Tests Now Six
June 8, 2009
In its ongoing investigation of improper endoscopy practices that may have exposed patients at three of its facilities to blood-borne diseases, the US Department of Veterans Affairs has said another patient has tested positive for HIV. A second patient at the VA's ear, nose and throat clinic in Augusta, Ga., has tested positive for HIV, according to the VA's Web site. The other patients testing HIV-positive are three colonoscopy patients at the VA hospital in Miami and one at the VA hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn. In addition, 45 patients have tested positive for hepatitis. Congress will take up the matter in committee hearings on June 16 (House of Representatives) and June 24 (Senate).
