Tell Abbott That We Will Not Accept a High Price for Their New Norvir!

June 8, 2009

Hi:

You may remember that in 2003 Abbott raised the price of Norvir 400%. Abbott has a new Norvir formulation known as Meltrex (which will not require refrigeration) and is threatening to raise the price yet again for both government and private payers. This will have a devastating effect on both the healthcare system and Norvir patient access. Norvir is necessary for "boosting" every marketed protease inhibitor (PI) and is the only boosting agent currently on the market. Thus, the price of Norvir effects the price of every PI containing regimen used by people with HIV.

The Fair Pricing Coalition has begun an initiative regarding the potential increased price of Norvir, the cost to government payers and the establishment of a Meltrex co-pay program. A sign-on letter is attached for your review. We hope you and/or your organization will sign on by June 29, 2009. Please contact me to sign-on to the letter. We also welcome your assistance in disseminating this sign-on letter to your contacts.

Thanks so much for your consideration and your anticipated cooperation.
