International News HIV/AIDS Cases Soar in Indonesia: OfficialJune 5, 2009 The head of the national AIDS commission announced Wednesday that the number of known HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia has nearly tripled, jumping from 9,565 in 2005 to 26,632 as of March. "The number of infections is increasing and it's worrying," said Nafsia Mboi. She added it is believed that 85 percent of Indonesians with HIV do not know they are infected. August 3-13, Bali will be the site of the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific. Representatives from 65 nations are expected to attend the conference, whose theme is "Empowering People -- Strengthening Networks."
