Indiana: Reported HIV Cases on Rise at Indiana University

An official with the Indiana University Health Center said three positive HIV tests have been reported to the facility since July 2008. "Three is a large number for the IU Health Center considering that it is rare to get one case reported in a year's time. In the last 15 years, there has not been such a number," said Kathryn Brown, a health educator at IU Health and Wellness.

Adeel Chaudhry, co-director of the Student Global AIDS Campaign's IU chapter, said students wanting information and facts about HIV/AIDS can go to the Center for Sexual Health Promotion. In addition, Positive Link conducts free HIV testing, he said.

The Monroe County Health Department offers confidential STD screenings for HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. The $15 charge includes testing, treatment, confidential partner follow-up, and referral. Beginning in April, screenings are conducted on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Futures Family Health Clinic, 338 S. Walnut St.
