U.S. Judge Orders TB Patient Into Isolation

January 23, 2009

Champaign County Circuit Court Judge John Kennedy on Tuesday ordered the GPS tracking of a TB patient who failed to take precautions to avoid spreading the disease. Court records say the man, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has already transmitted TB to his girlfriend. The patient, the judge, and others wore protective masks during the hearing. The patient, who is undergoing treatment at home, could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor and face jail time if he violates the judge's order that he remain isolated for 30 days.
