International News Iran Reports 30 Percent Rise in HIV Infection on 2007October 20, 2008 New figures from the health ministry show that 18,320 Iranians have been infected with HIV -- up 30 percent from 2007. "So far, 1,592 of the infected people have developed AIDS... and 2,800 have died," the ministry said. Of persons with HIV, 93.7 percent are men; 80.8 percent became infected through intravenous drug use; and 11.9 percent of the infections resulted from sexual exposure.
