Unsafe Sex Major Risk Factor for Deaths Among Thai People
October 15, 2008
Speaking at the "Gender, Sexual Health and Healthy Well-Being" conference in Thailand on Monday, researcher Yannatorn Jianrattanakul said a sexual questionnaire appearing in print media showed many people do not know how to protect themselves from STDs and unwanted pregnancy. "Society has to find out the appropriate way to disseminate this information to build understanding and knowledge on this issue," she said. Dr. Wichai Chokeviwat of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation said male sex workers will replace housewives next year as the group at highest risk for sexual disease. "This trend has stemmed from changes in behavior and society," said Wichai. "There are many things luring people to have unsafe sex, while the attitude about sex among Thai people [does not] promote good sexual health."
