International News Survey Says Four in Five Swazi Men Would Reject AIDS TestingJune 3, 2008 Although nearly 40 percent of the adults in Swaziland have HIV, the highest prevalence rate in the world, four out of five men surveyed there said they would refuse to take an HIV test, and only 46 percent said they were prepared to use condoms. In addition, 40 percent of the men said spousal abuse was justified under certain circumstances. Swaziland is Africas last absolute monarchy, and its current king has 13 wives. The deeply held belief that women are inferior to men has helped spur the rapid spread of HIV in the landlocked kingdom, according to a report issued last year by Physicians for Human Rights.
