International News United Kingdom: Pupils Turn to Web to Boost HIV AwarenessMay 29, 2008 Several teenagers, all third-year students in the Business Skills Partnership at Firrhill High School in Edinburgh, are working with Scotland's Waverly Care HIV group to create a new anti-AIDS social networking Web site. "New media and social networking sites are a very big growth area for a lot of charities as they offer extensive opportunities for free publicity, and many charities are using these very effectively," said Karen Docwra of Waverly Care. "This project will give us a bit more of an insight into how we can use new media to raise awareness of HIV. One aspect is raising awareness of safe sex, but the other side is raising awareness of the stigma that is attached, which is a key aspect in every part of our work," Docwra said.
