Namibia Touts New Program to Fight AIDS

May 23, 2008

The latest survey by Namibia's Ministry of Health indicates an alarming increase in the country's HIV/AIDS infection rate. Liue Kauta, HIV/AIDS coordinator for the ministry, said that despite the spike, the government is taking strong measures to fight the disease. "We have a five-year strategic plan looking at how effectively to reduce the HIV problem," she said. Namibia is intensifying efforts to provide treatment, care, and support for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as stepping up prevention programs, she said. "The focus now is to address people's attitudes towards the disease so that people can really change their sexual behavior."
